Cat Island Past & Present

10 year old child raped in Cat Island    Man bound over in superior court for the arson of Cutlass Bay has now been accused of the rape of a 10 year old Bains Town, Cat Island girl. If Bahamian Courts had acted properly, this child would not have been the victim of this horrible crime.  Does Julian now have the Dream Team attorneys or now that the Russells are not involved does he even have an attorney?  Brave Davis you are responsible.

New report Jennifer of Hawks Nest was forced to leave the island (See 6/21/2001 posting) Bahamian Immigration would not have pulled the work permit for this incident.  Pressure had to have been placed on the owner of Hawks Nest by the local officials to fire Jennifer.  I would be interested in the point of view by the tourist who made the complaint.  This sounds like another incident where low level government official exerting their limited authority on American's living, working and investing in the Bahamas.

Suspected arson of another resort on Cat Island remains unsolved. The recent fire , arson suspected,  on Cat Island of a Bahamian Owned resort in North Cat Island remains unsolved.  Sandy's note to Sondra, it doesn't matter that no one has been arrested.  Nothing happens to them anyway.

U.S. Hotel managers on Cat Island asked the new Administrator to leave the  porch of a house they had rented to tourists, after receiving a complaint from the tourists. The Administrator and two visitors from Nassau were said to have been sitting on the porch drinking.  The Administrator reportedly responded, "I run this island." Rumors now have it that the managers are being threatened with not having their work permits renewed.

Sandy's notes.  Guys good for you!  I don't blame you for telling the Administrator to leave. Robby and I would have done the same thing.  Maybe we are spoiled Americans, but President Bush could not do that in the U. S. and certainly no low-level government official could get away with it.  This was the attitude of most of the Cat Island Administrators during our 10 years on the island.

Dear Arnold,
Yes, of course, Cat Island is safe and beautiful.  I have two small daughters and I have been to Cat Island five times in the past year, they love it and believe me, I would never take them if it was not safe.  There are no stores to rob and no tourists either, so crime is not possible anyway, no victims around.  Our bay is very secluded and no one is on our shores unless they are also a guest.
You can check out our website if you like, at www.fernandezbayvillage.com and see that everything is as peaceful and calm as it looks.
I am not sure why Cutlass Bay folks went out of business but they are trying to sell a book now about crime on the island so they are making allegations that are less than truthful and have no real basis in fact.
Call me if you want more referrals and/or information, I would be happy to help.
Cheers,  Lynn Gambino  (800) 940-1905

Cat Island a Hot bed of controversy....Cat  Islanders complain about Holland American Cruise line paying employees $40.00 day for a 12 hour shift or $3.33 a hour.  The lowest paid employee at Cutlass Bay received $4.00 an hour, plus lunch, plus tips.(8 hr day)  A Cat Islander complained in the Nassau Tribune  that Robby ran an exclusive club for wealthy white foreigners. (I guess this is a good reason to burn the resort,)   The guests of Cutlass Bay tipped the staff very well.

Answers to Nassau  Tribune Articles

Newly arrived on  Cat Island,  Royal Bahamas Police Acting Inspector pronounces island clean.  Mr. Gaitor arrived on the Island January 3, 2001 and advises The Nassau Tribune on February 10, 2001 that  there is no drug activity on Cat Island.  Sandy's comment: How does he know? Did the Russell's and Alfred Moss, Jr. tell him so?   Note (Allan Russell and Alfred Moss, Jr., prominent Cat Island business men, both convicted drug dealers. , Alfred Moss Jr., not only drug dealer, but an x-Royal Bahamian Policeman)  Of course Robby nor I know Inspector Gaitor, he had been on the on the Island only 9 days when Robby left January12, 2001.  Robby did say though that  the new inspector was at the airport, on the day of his departure, discussing obtaining  the pirated satellite service so prevalent on the island. Is the inspector's residence on Cat Island, furnished by the Bahamian Government,  now receiving pirated satellite service? A violation of the US- Bahamas Treaty?  A Federal offence in the U. S.  Of course maybe the inspector did not know this was stealing (Mrs. Crawford would classify this as petty theft) just like he doesn't know there is drug activity on the island    * Do we care if  the inspector is receiving illegal satellite srvice?  N,o,  It doesn't effect us., People that live in glass houses should not throw stones   You should know your facts before you speak.

Robby said I've heard that story before:

Ms. Sylvia Larimore Crawford stating that this website contained fabrication,  told the Nassau Tribune that only petty crime happens on Cat Island:  Sandy's Comments

Harry Bethel "Cat Island is not a drug haven"   Sandy Comments Come on, Harry tell the Tribune what you tell Robby.  Tell them that Julian Robinson told you he knew what he had told the police and that he was going to tell in court that  Ezra Russell hired him.   What made him change his mind?  You may not have had any drugs Harry but you know they are on Cat Island. Tell Sister Ilene Hello for me when you go to church Sunday.  I met Harry on my first visit to Cat Island.  I found him charming.  I found him equally charming the last time I saw him.

Mrs. Marguerite Russell claimed to the Tribune that business is already slower than  usual and wondered whether this website could be part of the cause. :Sandy's Comments No Mrs. Russell, your son, Ezra Russell  is the cause. and everyone who does decide to come to Cat Island should know the name Bridge Inn, Russell Service Station, Two Corners Inn, and Beaches Delight.  Hopefully they will not patronize the  Russell establishments

Nassau Tribune

Dear Mr. Marquis

A fiend of mine on Cat Island has forwarded me three articles that appeared in the Tribune.

I would like to post them on the http//www.cutlass-bay.com. The articles are titled Web site sparks war of words over Bahamas' image - Cat Island police inspector says island "clean of drugs" and Cat Island 'has no future" if drug trade unchecked.

I would like to scan these articles and include them on the web site in their entirely. I am requesting permission to include these articles. As per our conversation Thursday, that you would be forwarding all articles relating to the web site controversy. I would like to request reprint rights of those also.

I have included some answers on the web site page Cat Island History, but the readers should have access to all sides of the story.

Thank you

Sandy

Investors Be Ware   When ex-Prime Minster Pindling proposed the appointment of Irving Knowles as an Ambassador, vetoed by the British, one Cat Islander made the following statement. "The Queen wouldn't have him."  Sand Money would not be complete without our story of Irving Knowles.  While  watching Robin Williams movie, "Club Paradise"  when the corrupt government official walks up the steps, my then 73 year old mother in law, says "Irvin Knowles."
