Suspects in murder case filed law-suits against the police
Nassau Guardian March 15, 2001  Law officers were placed under great pressure internationally as well as locally to solve the murder of American schoolteacher Lori Fogleman, a Supreme Court jury heard yesterday.

Accused Acquitted on murder and rape charges of British Tourist McIntosh had been accused of the rape and murder of British teacher’s assistant Joanne Clarke at Paradise Island in August, 1998.

Evidence shows slain tourist was tortured Paradise Island - The evidence pointed strongly to a suggestion that Ms Clarke, 22, had been viciously sexually assaulted. The attacker used and discarded a condom near the body.  Ms Clarke’s body was discovered 67 feet off a track road leading to Cabbage Beach.

Murder in Eleuthera British School Teacher

Carole Leach , 37, a British national murdered in her home on the small Bahamas island of Eleuthera.   Eve Gamson, Ms Leach's Mother's  dealings with the Bahamian police have left her "very bitter". it was only after the latest murders were discovered that the Bahamian police had sprung into action, and as family friend I was able to offer a $10 000 reward for the arrest of Carole's killers, which was matched by the Bahamas government, but this was not publicized because my daughter was murdered on Eleuthera, a family island not as important to the Bahamas as Paradise Island. "Gamson she believed Scotland Yard and the FBI were helping in the case only after Kerzner had insisted they do so to protect his interests. For the past year she had encountered "a wall of silence" and the inquest into her daughter's death had yet to be held.  http://www.netcomuk.co.uk/~ishtar/sept98.pdf Carol's mother thought the murder may have been linked to drugs. Carol was an outspoken critic of drug dealers.

http://oii.net/Journal/feb99/NATIONAL_NOTES.shtml  Additional information on the murder of Carole Leach, Ms Leach was murdered in August 1997 and had spent seven years teaching in the south Eleuthera community. On 29th December, Sidnet Pyfrom of Rock Sound was charged with being concerned with another in the murder of Carole Leach.

Sandy's Note:  Robby and I send our sincere condolences to Ms. Gamson on the death of her daughter.  I was not aware of this murder and found it by accident on the internet. I know it won't bring Carol back but hopefully her stance against drugs influenced the Children of Eleuthera.  Also, hopefully by the information appearing on this website, future victims of crime in the Bahamas will not have to wait until  Mr. Kerzner's (Paradise Island) interest need to be protected in order to receive justice.

South African Mom searches for son

Plucky mom, Roz Buchler,  finds son's killer  HOMEWARD BOUND: Patrick Buchler was planning to sail a yacht home to South Africa from the US - engine trouble forced Patrick to make a stop in the Bahamas. The Bahamian police seemed uninterested in Roz's story and her inquiries got her nowhere.

Sandy's note: One of the things that the above murders have in common is that they are all foreigners, mostly tourists.  If your city of 300,000 people had 5 foreigners killed, what would the headlines read?  Relatives of the victims complain that the Bahamian police were unresponsive. A complaint that Robby and I had the entire year of 1999.

http//library.thinkquest.org/16665/murder.htm  This Bahamas are listed on this report as having the highest number of murders per capita.  82.85 per 100,000.  Of course I did not know or suspect this prior to our ordeal the past two years.
